Springer Compact (Springer Nature hybrid journals)

Umeå University researchers can publish open access at no cost in the majority of Springer Nature hybrid journals. Read more about the terms of our agreement with the publisher for 2024 and what it means for you here.

The open access publishing fee (APC, article processing charge) has been pre-paid through an agreement between the library and Springer Nature. The agreement applies to open access publishing in those hybrid journals from Springer Nature that are included in Open Choice. The agreement also applies to journals published under the Palgrave Macmillan and Nature Academic journals imprints that are included in Open Choice.

For Nature and Nature Research journals, go to the Nature and Nature Research journals agreement.

Terms and conditions

  • You must be the corresponding author, i.e., the one handling communication with the publisher and journal.
  • Your Umeå University affiliation must be stated in the published article.
  • Use your university email ending with @umu.se. The email domain is often used to recognise your eligibility.
  • The agreement applies to the article types “original paper”, “review paper”, “brief communication” and “continuous education”.
  • Your article will be published under a CC BY license.

How the publishing process works

Upon acceptance, you will be asked to confirm your affiliation on Springer’s publication platform. Choose “Umeå University” from the dropdown list.
