Students need MFA

NEWS As a student, you are now encouraged to install multi-factor authentication (MFA). This is to increase security and reduce the risk of unauthorized access to your information or account. The service is free, and during 2024, many systems, such as Microsoft 365, will require that you have installed MFA.

How to activate MFA

MFA provides an extra layer of protection when logging into Umeå University’s various systems and digital services. After you have activated MFA, you can confirm your identity via the “Microsoft Authenticator” app when you log in to, for example, Microsoft 365.

Why MFA is needed

The advantage of MFA is that your account achieves a higher level of security. It becomes more difficult for outsiders to log in and access your information because it would require access to both your Umu-id, password, and mobile device.
