The digital future gives new opportunities and, in many ways, will change the production process in the future. The future industrial worker is very likely to i.e. manage exceptions and operate in a more automated environment, check quality in real time online and fine tune the process directly and use digital tools to identify waste and to bring insight on problems. The industrial worker will become a fully integrated unit with the supply chain, a shift from muscular towards brainpower.

The industry of the future will have an increased focus on enabling flexibility in the industrial system through both hard and soft automation to capture and implement new technologies and opportunities. The industry will also try to find new models for scaling production and develop digital models to manage the fast changes, driven by new manufacturing technologies such as additive manufacturing and enablers such as augmented reality.
