Professor Matthew Francis at the Department of molecular biology is researching bacterial physiology and disease-causing properties.

Matthew Francis research focuses on describing, at a molecular level, what bacteria do to avoid being killed by the body's immune system during an infection. He has, among other things, identified a regulatory network for stress response, which bacteria use to turn on and off different physiological conditions depending on the environment. New knowledge in the field can provide molecular clues to eventually develop effective anti-infectious drugs.

Matthew Francis will be installed as Professor in biotechnoloy focusing on the molecular genetics at the Annual Celebration Ceremony on 21 October at 5 pm in Aula Nordica.
