Postdoc fellowship (2 years) at the Department of Molecular Biology and Umeå Centre for Microbial Research (UCMR) – To study bacterial cytoskeletal and protein complex structure by 3D correlative fluorescence and electron microscopy.
A postdoc fellowship is available for a motivated and talented candidate, who would like to advance in electron microscopy studies and related methodology such as protein purification and 3D image analysis. In this project we will focus on the function, assembly and structure of bacterial cytoskeleton and protein complexes. The project will also involve development of correlative fluorescence and electron microscopy methods. The 3D organization of cytoskeletal protein complexes will be studied during polar growth of bacteria, in the model organism Streptomyces coelicolor and further expanded to compassion with other cytoskeletal systems and/or model organisms. Both the Electron Microscopy platform and the Biochemical Imaging Centre at Umeå University as well as international electron microscopy facilities will be involved in “state of the art” method development for this project.
Qualified applicants should have a PhD degree not older than 3 years. The candidate should have documented experiences in one or several fields related to the project; such as structural biology, electron microscopy, fluorescence microscopy and 3D visualization and image processing, strong computational skills as well as good knowledge within the fields of cell biology, microbiology. The candidate must be able to carry out independent scientific research work and be able to write scientific reports and publications. Fluency in written and spoken English is required. Emphasis will be placed on personal suitability, organizational skills, collaborative work together with several technology facilities, as well as on genuine enthusiasm for the topic and methodology.
The application should include: a cover letter with personal contact details and summarizing your qualifications motivations (max 1 page), a short research proposal and/or stating your visions in research (max 1 page), CV, a publication list and the names and contact details of at least two references.
The fellowship is for 2 years and will be paid to the candidate as a tax-free stipend (20 800 SEK per month). The stipend will be paid directly to the stipendee from the Kempe foundation in Örnsköldsvik.
The application must be submitted electronically and all documents should be included in one single file in PDF format.
