1-2 Postdoctoral scholarships (2 years) in Computer Science
with focus on knowledge-based systems applied to health care
Umeå University - with its 36,700 students and over 4,200 employees - is an organisation in constant change and development. Umeå University conducts groundbreaking research within several areas - several in which we are among the best in the world - within others regarded as the leaders in Sweden. We are one of Sweden’s largest providers of education and offer a broad and attractive range of courses and programmes. Our campus constitutes an inspiring environment for everyone that studies and works here. We wish to co-operate with companies and organisations throughout the Umeå region and all over the world.
The Department of Computing Science is seeking outstanding candidates for 1-2 postdoctoral scolarships within the field of computerized and personalised decision-support in complex knowledge domains. The successful candidate will work in a research group that focuses on user, interaction and knowledge modelling. The group’s research includes the design and analysis of methods, algorithms and software for knowledge-based decision-support that promote development of users’ knowledge and skills in collaborative use environments. Current and future topics of research interest lies in the intersection of AI and HCI with emphasis on interaction design of knowledge-based systems, and include:
• knowledge aquisition and representation
• knowledge and user modelling
• design of interactive clinical reasoning
• user-authored and user-driven development of knowledge-based applications
• agent-based argumentation and formal dialogues
• agent-supported learning and skill development
• cognitive tools and personalisation
• intelligent user interfaces
• semantic web and ontologies
• evaluation of tailored knowledge systems
• real-world applications of results from these topics
See http://www.cs.umu.se/forskning/forskargrupper/uikm/ for an overview of ongoing research projects.
The research is performed in an international and creative environment. We work within both national and international projects, in close collaboration with industrial, health care providing and academic partners.
The scholarships are aimed for post-doctoral research, to be performed jointly with senior researchers and PhD students in the group, as well as with our collaboration partners. Project coordination tasks may also be included. The post-doc scholarships are for two years and come with competitive stipends.
Applicants should have earned a PhD in computer science or a related field relevant for the position, preferably not more than three years old. Research topics of interest span from argumentative multiagent systems, intelligent user interfaces and user modelling, to user-driven design and development of knowledge-based support systems. Industrial experience and experience from health care is also considered highly valuable. Excellent communication skills in written and spoken English are required. In order to address the uneven distribution of gender at the department, female candidates are encouraged to apply for the scholarships.
