Post-Doctoral Fellowship in Clinical Proteomics of Neurodegeneration
Umeå University is dedicated to providing creative environments for learning and work. We offer a wide variety of courses and programmes, world leading research, and excellent innovation and collaboration opportunities. More than 4 000 employees and 36 000 students have already chosen Umeå University. We welcome your application!
The Department of Pharmacology and Clinical Neuroscience, Umeå University is offering a two-year full-time post-doctoral fellowship to join a project using integrated omics analysis of CSF and blood samples collected from Parkinson’s, ALS and Alzheimer’s patients. A primary focus for the candidate will be to conduct mass spectrometry based proteomics studies for both candidate biomarker and drug target identification. Previous metabolomics studies in this project have identified specific proteins for more detailed analysis, which the candidate will conduct using mass spectrometry, ELISA and other tools of protein analysis. The clinical material includes longitudinally collected samples from individual patients and blood samples biobanked prior to disease onset.
The ideal candidate will have completed a doctoral program involving proteomics and mass spectrometry, have strong bioinformatics and data analysis skills, and an interest in the integration of multiple omics datasets. The candidate will have a doctoral degree preferentially received no longer than three years ago. This position offers the opportunity to develop skills in the proteomic analysis of human clinical samples, as well as the chance to make significant contributions to increasing the understanding of neurondegenerative diseases. The candidate will perform studies in the Chemical Biology Center (www.kbc.umu.se), Umeå University and Umeå Plant Science Center (www.upsc.se), SLU, Umeå in collaboration with the Swedish Metabolomics Center (www.swedishmetabolomicscentre.se). The successful candidate will receive a personal 2-year tax-exempt stipend from the Kempe Foundation, Sweden.
The candidate will perform studies independently following necessary training and will develop the following specific skills and techniques:
- Development of enrichment methods for low abundant proteins from clinical samples
- Creation of Mass spectrometry based proteomics reference libraries
- Development of targeted protein analysis techniques
- Integration of proteomics and metabolomics datasets
Application materials should include a CV with publication list, a short letter of research interests, and names of at least 2 references.
For more information, please contact group leader Miles Trupp, Department of Pharmacology and Clinical Neuroscience, miles.trupp@neuro.umu.se or Professor Gunnar Wingsle, SLU, Umeå, Gunnar.Wingsle@slu.se.
Your complete application, marked with reference number 223-943-13, should be sent as one single pdf-file to medel@diarie.umu.se (state the reference number as subject) no later than August 12, 2013. The position will remain open until filled.
