We are looking for a postdoctoral fellow in molecular microbiology to the Department of Molecular Biology at Umeå University, Sweden. The opening is temporary for two years and available immediately or as agreed.
The Department of Molecular Biology has about 200 employees. The department's main tasks involve research, graduate education, and undergraduate education as well as interactions with the community. Affiliated with both the Faculty of Science and Technology and the Faculty of Medicine, the department's research and education activity includes several molecular biological areas within science and medicine: cell biology, microbiology, infection biology, tumor biology and neurobiology and in conjunction with the use of genetic model organisms (except plants). The recruited Postdoc will focus on investigating the role of D-amino acids in polymicrobial communities, particularly in chemotaxis and stress response.
In the study you will perform state of the art UPLC-MS assays coupled to chemometric tools, live microscopy and transposon-sequencing screenings amongst other biochemical, cell and molecular biology techniques.
It is based in the lab of Felipe Cava the Laboratory of Molecular Infection Medicine Sweden (MIMS) and at the Department of Molecular Biology, Umeå University.
You must hold a University degree equivalent to a European University PhD in molecular biology at the time of recruitment. You should be highly motivated, have very good communication skills with senior colleagues and peers and the ability to interact in a team.
The successful candidate must have a good working knowledge of standard molecular biology and biochemistry techniques (including DNA cloning, protein production and purification. The candidate must show proficiency in microbiology and basic microscopy methods. It will be particularly qualifying for the successful candidate demonstrated expertise in SOS stress response and bacterial motility/chemotaxis.
You need to be skilled in both oral and written communication in English.
