Postdoctoral fellowship at the Department of Medical Biochemistry and Biophysics
Umeå University is dedicated to providing creative environments for learning and work. We offer a wide variety of courses and programs, world leading research, and excellent innovation and collaboration opportunities. More than 4 300 employees and more than 30 000 students have already chosen Umeå University. We welcome your application!
One postdoctoral position is open at the Department of Medical Biochemistry and Biophysics, which is a stimulating international research environment with access to advanced equipment (www.medchem.umu.se) and via the location in the Chemical Biological Centre (www.kbc.umu.se) to technical platforms. We are looking for a highly motivated candidate to participate in the project "Helicobacter pylori: outer membrane vesicles and host cell responses".
The fellowship is for two years (1+1).
Half of the world population is infected with the bacterium Helicbacter pylori. The majority of infected persons remain asymptomatic but a subset will develop peptic ulcer disease or gastric cancer. Unless treated, the infection will persist for the lifetime. The purpose of this project is to analyze uptake and cognate host cell responses caused by H. pylori outer membrane vesicles. The candidate will use genetic, molecular biology and biochemical approaches to analyze the cellular responses.
Candidates should have a PhD degree, or equivalent, in microbiology, molecular biology or biochemistry. The candidate should have extensive laboratory experience with molecular biology, biochemical methods and experience in microscopy techniques, in particular fluorescence microscopy. An ability to perform research independently as well as in a team, and good skills in the English language, are essential.
The application should contain (1) CV with full publication list and copies of the relevant degree certificates and a list of university courses, (2) a description of research experiences, (3) a personal letter including a statement of scientific interests, why you are interested in project and how you can contribute to the project (no more than one A4 page), as well as (4) contact information of two referees.
