Postdoctoral fellowship at the Department of Medical Biochemistry and Biophysics

One postdoctoral position is open at the Department of Medical Biochemistry and Biophysics, which is a stimulating international research environment with access to advanced equipment (www.medchem.umu.se) and via the location in the Chemical Biological Centre (www.kbc.umu.se) to technical platforms.

The fellowship is for five months.

Project description
Half of the world population is infected with the bacterium Helicobacter pylori. The majority of infected persons remain asymptomatic but a subset will develop peptic ulcer disease or gastric cancer. Unless treated, the infection will persist for the lifetime. The purpose of this project is to investigate H. pylori bacterial adaptation to the local environment. The candidate needs be proficient in microbiology and will use biochemical approaches, such as isotope binding assays, to test for acid sensitivity and strength in binding.

Qualifications
Candidates should have a PhD degree, or equivalent, in microbiology and/or biochemistry. The candidate should have extensive laboratory experience in microbiology, and biochemical methods, with emphasis on microscopy techniques and isotope based analyses and, in addition, statistics analyses in biological systems. The candidate would also need abilities to work independently as well as in a team, and skills in the English language, are essential.
