Postdoctoral research fellow – Leading strand synthesis in DNA replication
Umeå University is dedicated to providing creative environments for learning and work. We offer a wide variety of courses and programs, world leading research, and excellent innovation and collaboration opportunities. More than 4 100 employees and 31 000 students have already chosen Umeå University. We welcome your application!
We are looking for a highly motivated postdoctoral research fellow to join our laboratory at Umeå University, Sweden. We are interested in structure-function studies of yeast DNA polymerase epsilon using a combination of x-ray crystallography, biochemical and genetic techniques. The candidate will participate in a project with the aim to mechanistically understand how Pol ε synthesizes DNA with high fidelity and high processivity. These studies expand to experiments addressing how Pol ε is directed to the leading strand in yeast. The studies may include over-expression and purification of proteins that will be studied. The studies may also involve yeast genetics, measurements of mutation rates, and x-ray crystallography depending on the candidate´s background. Our structural work is complemented with biochemical studies of Pol ε and other proteins which participate at the eukaryotic replication fork or in DNA repair.
Successful candidates should have received a Ph.D. degree in structural biology, biochemistry, molecular biology, chemistry, genetics or related discipline. Applicants with a strong background in protein and nucleic acids biochemistry are encouraged to apply. Good written and oral communication skills are essential.
The application should include a motivation letter, CV with a complete list of publications, copy of Ph.D. diploma and contact information of at least two references. Application can be written in English.
Applicants may address questions to Erik Johansson (DNA replication group), firstname.lastname@example.org
