We are seeking a highly motivated postdoctoral fellow in molecular microbiology at the Department of Molecular Biology at Umeå University, Sweden. The opening is temporary for two years and available from April 2018 or as agreed.
The Department of Molecular Biology has about 200 employees. The department's main tasks involve research, graduate education, and undergraduate education as well as interactions with the community. Affiliated with both the Faculty of Science and Technology and the Faculty of Medicine, the department's research and education activity include several molecular biological areas within science and medicine. The recruited Postdoc will focus on investigating of the roles of global transcriptional and translational regulators of the soil and water dwelling Pseudomonas putida. In particular, on the molecular mechanisms of the stringent response and Hfq/Crc-mediated translational regulation. Within the study, you will perform purpose designed genetic and biochemical assays amongst other state of the art molecular biology techniques, within the laboratory of Professor Victoria Shingler at the Department of Molecular Biology, Umeå University.
You must hold a University degree equivalent to a European University PhD in Molecular Biology / Microbiology or Biochemistry at the time of recruitment. You should also have good communication skills in both oral and written English. The successful candidate must have proficiency in basic microbiology and a good working knowledge of standard molecular biology and biochemistry techniques (including DNA cloning, protein production and purification). Previous documented competence in biochemical and/or genetic analysis within Pseudomonas biology and/or in vitro analysis of bacterial transcriptional or translational regulation will be considered as a merit.
