Foundation Course in Swedish and Undergraduate Studies, 90 ECTS

Students who intend to pursue degree studies in Umeå, but have no previous knowledge of the Swedish language can apply for undergraduate studies that begin with a three-semester Foundation Course in Swedish. If you passing the final test in Swedish, you can begin your undergraduate studies in the academic term that is stipulated in the admission letter.

The Foundation Course in Swedish lasts three terms, 90 ECTS, and begins once a year in the middle of January (Spring Term).

Eligibility

To fulfill the general admission requirements you must submit documents from your upper secondary school education with a diploma that corresponds to a Swedish education of the same level (gymnasium). In the case of applicants who have not studied English for at least 8 years at the upper secondary level, knowledge of English is proven by an internationally recognised English language proficiency test such as TOEFL or IELTS . TOEFL results must be sent directly from ETS (Educational Testing Service) directly to the Swedish National Admission Office to Higher Education (VHS) and please use the institution code for Sweden 9520. Copies of the IELTS may be sent with the application because they can be verified online; usually, results may not be more than two years old.

Specific Requirements

The language of instruction in each programme is Swedish. Please note that there are only one or two places in each programme for visiting students so the competition is very high. Your final results from High School must be above average in the subjects that are of particular importance to the programme that you apply for. These subjects vary, as each programme has its own specific requirements.
