Exchange Students

Hello exchange students!

We are very happy that you are interested in spending your exchange period at Umeå University. We hope the information we give on these pages will be helpful. If you have any questions, you are welcome to contact the international coordinator who is responsible for incoming exchange applications. You can find his or her contact information on our staff page.

Who can be become an exchange student?

To come to Umeå University as an exchange student your home university must have signed a formal exchange agreement with Umeå University. Contact the coordinator at your home university to find out if such an agreement exists. If there is an agreement your home university can nominate you for exchange studies.

How to be nominated

Your home university has to nominate you for exchange studies at Umeå University according to our online nomination procedure. The nomination is submitted by filling out an online form.

How to apply

Once your home university has submitted the nomination you will receive a link to the application form and application instructions to your e-mail. Exchange students do not apply through the University Admissions in Sweden website.

Meeting course qualifications

Being nominated by your home university means that you have been granted the status of exchange student. It does not mean that you will automatically be accepted to study any course that you choose here in Umeå. You will still have to fulfill the prerequisites for each specific course. These qualifications are specified in the information about each course, which is provided in the on-line course catalogue.
