Master's Programme in Computational Science and Engineering, 120 Credits
About the programme
Computational Science & Engineering (CS&E) is a field of knowledge which aims at the development of methods that rely on computers and mathematics to model, simulate, and visualize various kinds of systems. CS&E combines several different disciplines such as computer science including numerical analysis, applied mathematics, physics, and technology. The applications are literally found everywhere. They typically deal with complicated and/or complex systems, and often require the management and analysis of large data sets. Applications include image analysis, optimization of industrial processes, web-based search for information, risk analysis, the mechanism behind aurora borealis, pricing of financial derivates, computer games, and special effects in movies.
Level of education: Continuation programme Application and eligibility Programme syllabus
Instruction
The Master's Programme in CS&E begins with four compulsory courses that provide both the basic knowledge and a solid foundation for the more specialized courses that follow. The programme closes with a diploma work that gives opportunities both to make use of the attained knowledge and to learn the more specific tricks of the trade for a certain application.
Career Opportunities
CS&E is widely used both in scientific research and advanced industrial development. The efficiency in this kind of work is however greatly boosted by a solid education. The Master's Programme in CS&E gives both a basic knowledge of the field and the specialization needed to successfully complete projects within research and development.
The degree obtained is Master in Computational Science and Engineering.
Tuition fees and scholarships
With a few exceptions, all citizens of countries outside of the European Union (EU), European Economic Area (EEA) and Switzerland are required to pay application and tuition fees for education at undergraduate and advanced level.
For most degree programmes rates are SEK 90,000–135,000 per year. Programmes in architecture, design, and fine arts range from SEK 270,000 to SEK 330,000 per year.
Umeå University offers a limited number of scholarships to students from outside the EU/EEA.
The Swedish Institute administers numerous scholarships each year for students and researchers coming to Sweden.
