What’s it like to study at Umeå University?
Students that take courses on CS department will receive not only theoretical knowledge but also lots of practical experience. Several courses offer possibility to create software for IT-companies which can help with finding topic for a master thesis and also employment. Moreover all the knowledge is presented to the students in a very interesting way, so in some cases people can find a new hobby or passion.
Your impression of Umeå and the surrounding areas?
During summer beautiful and perfect for rest & relaxation. Winter is dark and cold and can (only in some cases) cause depression. Luckily, people have learned how to deal with it. Some say that Umeå is too far north and generally too far from everything. I say it is perfect for students. It has just enough charm to attract them, but not too much to completely divert their attention from studying (besides students always seem to find a way to that themselves).
What you like best about the town of Umeå and its surroundings?
During all the years (3 totally) that I have stayed in Umeå I always loved that it takes 3 minutes to get to from Mariehemsvägen to Nydalasjön (yes I know, I\'m nuts). For me having a lake and forest so close was incredible. It is a perfect place to relax, study or make barbecue. During winter you can play hockey or ski, during summer you can sunbath, swim or angle. With a little bit of imagination you can really do much more there.
What you would say to another international student thinking of attending Umeå University?
You\'re hesitating too long, besides you have to learn to cook anyway... :)
