Information for students who need a residence permit to Study in Sweden

Acquiring a residence permit for studies can take some time. Therefore, it is very important that all students who need a residence permit/student visa to enter Sweden, start the application process as soon as they receive their Notification of Selection results/Letter of Acceptance. You can find the application form on the
Migration Board website.

If you are unsure whether you will need a residence permit to study in Sweden, you can consult the Swedish Government's list.

You apply for a residence permit at the Swedish Embassy or a Swedish consulate in your home country or the country of permanent residence. Find the nearest Embassy/Consulate via Sweden Abroad.

When you apply for a residence permit make sure that you include all of the required documents. An incomplete application will not be considered. Pay special attention to the required documentation that proves that you have sufficient funds to support yourself during your studies in Sweden. For more precise information about the application process and required documentation, see the Swedish Migration Board website.

Please note that if you have to pay tuition fees for your studies, this payment must have reached Umeå University before the Migration Board will process your application.
