Immigration Regulations
On this page we have gathered a few pointers concerning the things that you should check up on before you plan to travel internationally. For further information, you should contact the Migration Board directly.
If you are going to study for a period longer than three months, you must have a residence permit. The Migration Board usually makes a decision within three months after receiving your application, so it is essential that you submit a complete application as soon as the letter of acceptance has reached you.
For studies that are shorter than three months, citizens in certain countries must have an entry visa. To see if this applies to you, please follow the link to the Migration Board’s home page in the right hand column.
As an EU/EEA citizen, you have the right to study in Sweden without a residence permit. A person who has the right of residence must register with the Migration Board no longer than three months after entering Sweden. Nordic citizens can visit and live in Sweden without a residence permit and do not have to register.
