Where to find your Course Literature
You will most probably be expected to read a reasonable amount of course literature during your studies. The following information will help you to find the required literature for your courses and to keep down your literature costs.
Libraries
The main University Library is called UB and is situated in the Social Science Building (Samhällsvetarhuset). The Medical Library is a part of the University Library, but is situated in the University Hospital (Building 6M on the campus map). The contents of this library focus on material that concerns medicine. For more information visit the University Library website.
In order to gain access to the library and borrow books you will need a library card. Information about how to acquire a library card can be obtained at the library reception desk. 1 copy of every book on the course literature lists is kept in "The red room" (Röda Rummet). You are welcome to read the books in this room at the study desks that have been made available for this purpose, but you cannot check them out of the library.
Umeå City Library is a public library that anyone can visit and use. It is situated in the town centre, very close to the central bus stop called Vasaplan. For more information visit the City Library website
Book Stores
"Akademibokhandeln", the book store that is located in the Universum building on campus, stocks all of the required course literature for the courses that are given at the university. Akademibokhandeln can also be found in MVG in the city centre. If the books that you need are not in store, you can order them at Akademibokhandeln.
"Åkerbloms" is a book store that is located on Rådhustorget in the town center. They also stock most of the required course literature.
Buying Course Literature On-Line
You can also choose to buy your course literature on-line. It can often be cheaper than buying the books in a book store. There are many different websites where you can buy books, like bokus.com or adlibris.se.
