Your impression of Umeå and the surrounding areas?
You can chose to travel the world or join an Umeå program to study in, to find they are the same. Diversity, Snow and Fika is what makes Umeå the place to be. Go up to find Kiruna and Northern lights and go down to Lund or Stockholm. Now declared European Capital of Culture for 2014, Umea is where you live the dream. One of the few places on earth where you don’t inhale smoke from cars when you breath. From Professors to school kids…. Everyone loves a bicycle.
What you like best about the town of Umeå and its surroundings?
From stellar still performance in Downtown Square by 9th grade theatre students to pigeons scampering in front of Maxi, it’s all exquisite. Friday street concert and a walk by the river will make your day. Best part is that you can explore the city in 15 minutes by bicycle. Almost everyone speaks English and bend over backwards to help you. I personally like the wilderness. With more trees than human beings, you can always take a break from human beings to the nature.
What you would say to another international student thinking of attending Umeå University?
With high standards of education, excellent cultural diversity and egalitarian Scandinavian values… Umea will be an unforgettable experience for you. I would happily choose Umea University over Ivy Leagues, given an option. It will be one of the decisions in your life that you won’t regret. Pack your warm clothes and rush to Umeå. Valkömmen till Umeå!
