What’s it like to study at Umeå University?
The lecture pace is fast because most courses finish within one month. Some courses are easy but some are really exciting. International Students can have a great variety of choices here so that they can study what interests me most. Many students I met work really hard. The classroom also gives clean, bright, friendly environment to learn and also meet friends. The room in dormitory is spacey and comfortable for me. Also it’s pretty close to both school and shopping center. I enjoy the study environment very much.
Your impression of Umeå and the surrounding areas?
Great! This is a small city with everything: We have amazingly beautiful nature of lake, river and forests. The ocean is also within biking distance, and I tried with friends. We have all means of transportation: train, bus and airplane. And it’s comfortable to go around by bike. We have nice food and friendly people. In Umea, we are also closer to one of the best tourist spots in the world: Kiruna of Sweden and the Lofoten Islands of Norway. I’ve been there with my friends just by train. I indeed have great experience and memory here.
What you like best about the town of Umeå and its surroundings?
Nature. The Nydala lake offers us all possibilities: barbecuing, biking, hiking, fishing, watching stars all over the sky with beers and friends. The surrounding forests give us access to some of the best mushrooms in the world. The river provides us opportunities to jog along it and do kayaking within it. The sky is always clear in summer and the snow is really lovely in winter. I love the unique nature you can’t find in either continental Europe or Taiwan my home country.
What you would say to another international student thinking of attending Umeå University?
It’s a place that beats your expectations. It’s small but offers you great chances to make very good friends since no one is allowed to travel somewhere each weekend like my other classmates studying in Netherlands or elsewhere. The nature here is unmatched if you’re from most parts of the world. And you can take many interesting courses during your term of study. You won’t regret!
