Science without Borders - Geoecology

Natural earth processes, climate change and effects of pollution. If you have studied biology, chemistry or environmental science and want to broaden your knowledge in earth science, the course package in Geoecology is something for you.

Geoecology integrates the fields of Geosciences and Ecology. You will study natural earth processes, climate change and the effects of anthropogenic impact, such as resource utilization and pollution.

These processes result in a more dynamic environment than what is generally recognized, and you will develop an awareness of environmental changes on timescales from years to millennia. Many of our courses uses the northern landscapes and ecosystems to highlight general theory and practices as well as global issues, like general field methods, anthropogenic influence on natural systems, pollution and environmental change.

All master level courses are given in English. Our department is highly international, with undergraduate and graduate students from 10 countries including two from Brazil and PhD-students from 14 countries, among them one from Brazil.
Most graduates are working with environmental issues or environmental problems on private companies or for the authorities. A number continue with Ph.D. studies and are aiming at a career as a scientist.

This education will increase your possibilities to get an advanced job within companies and governments and be a merit for future studies as a PhD student.

Education with Very High Quality

The Swedish National Agency for Higher Education conducts reoccurring reviews and grading of the quality of the higher education in Sweden. In 2011 the agency reviewed and graded Earth Science among other fields of study. The undergraduate and graduate education in Earth Science at our department where, together with the education in Geology in Lund the only ones that got the highest grade, Very High Quality, for both the undergraduate and graduate education.

We have been working very hard for many years to ensure that our educations are of the highest possible quality, and the grading by the Swedish National Agency for Higher Education tells us that we have succeeded.

We are working in the same way, equally hard, and with the same means with our education in Biology that are currently being evaluated and graded by the Swedish National Agency for Higher Education. We have every reason to believe that the education in Biology will receive the same grading, Very High Quality, for both the undergraduate and graduate education.
