Frequently asked questions about Application and Tuition fees

As a master’s student who was admitted before autumn 2011, why does the University require a tuition fee for the courses that I have applied for that start in autumn 2011?
You are exempt from tuition fees for courses that are within your programme. You are not exempt, however, for courses outside of the programme.
If the courses in question are part of the programme, it is perhaps due to the courses haven’t been applied to as programme courses. You may have applied for them as single courses.
If you don’t do anything, these courses will automatically be deleted as long as you don’t pay. If possible, please visit us at the reception desk in the Administration Building 3rd floor so that we can address your problem.

How do I pay my application fee?
The best method is to send in your payment electronically as instructed on the universityadmissions.se website, using a credit or bank card https://www.universityadmissions.se/en/All-you-need-to-know1/Studying-in-Sweden/Fees-and-scholarships/Paying-your-application-fee/

It is the quickest and most secure way of submitting your payment to us. You can also find this payment button on the Application fee page when you log in to "Your pages" at www.universityadmissions.se/intl/search

I would like to receive information about the assessment for different programmes that give scholarships because I want to choose the programme that offers the most scholarships.
Information about how many scholarships each department will offer will contingently be available at our website in the future.

I have been admitted to a programme at Umeå University. How can I get the invoice for the tuition fee?
After receiving a letter of notification of admission to Umeå University, students will receive information about the process regarding the payment of the tuition fee. Please read about Terms of paymenthttp://www.umu.se/english/education/tuition/terms-of-payment

I have applied for the Swedish Institute scholarship. Can you tell me if I received the scholarship?
The Swedish Institute scholarships are managed by the Swedish Institute and not by Umeå University. You may contact them directly.

I didn’t pay the application fee. Can I pay it now?
If the application fee is not paid in time then the application is not processed.
You can make the payment after the last payment date, but please observe that your application will then be regarded as a late application. If you find yourself in this situation, please check that the course or programme is still open for late application before you make the late payment. If your course or programme is not open for late application, then it is too late to make a payment. More about late applications.

How do I prove that I am a family member of an EU or an EEA citizen?
If you are a family member of a citizen from an EU or EEA country and have temporary or permanent right of residence in Sweden, you must document your status.
To document your temporary or permanent right of residence in Sweden you must submit a attested copy of your "Residence card of a family member of a union citizen" (Uppehållskort) that you received from the Swedish Migration Board (Migrationsverket). If you have been granted a Residence card (Uppehållskort), but have not yet received your card, please send a certified copy of the letter you received from the Swedish Migration Board (Migrationsverket) regarding this decision. PhD OR DOCTORAL STUDIES

Can I study other courses without paying a tuition fee?
You are requested to pay for your studies if your residence permit is for studies. PhD students generally hold residence permits for studies and are thereby requested to pay both the application and tuition fee for studies that are not scheduled in their doctoral studies. You can check what residence you hold in the permit stamp in your passport.

Since my husband/ wife is a PhD student, can I study at your University without paying a tuition fee?
Yes you may study at any University in Sweden without paying any tuition fee since this means that you have been granted temporary Swedish residency for reasons other than studies. As soon as your husband’s /wife’s PhD studies end then you will be required to pay.
