Doctoral studies

Are you interested in learning more and deepening your knowledge of a particular field of study? Are you interested in contributing to the production of new knowledge? Why not look into doctoral studies at Umeå University?

Doctoral studies involve four years of full-time study, which include a number of courses and a doctoral thesis.

Besides acquiring in-depth knowledge of a field of study, you will also cultivate your critical and analytical thinking.

During your studies, you get to solve problems independently as you prepare for a professional career within academia, or the business or public sector.

Doctoral students at Umeå University are regarded as employees and also receive a salary and other standard benefits of employment. Instead of applying directly for a doctoral level programme, candidates must apply for an available doctoral position that are published on our Work with us site.
