A clinic in Fourways, north of Johannesburg in South Africa, has recently been selected to take part in an international video-otoscopy project to benefit local underprivileged 2–16 year olds with ear problems. This cutting edge technology project was funded by two universities: the University of Pretoria and Umeå University, Sweden.
Molecular Biologist Anders Nordström is searching for clues among the smallest molecules in the body - metabolities - to produce new medicines to cure cancer and other diseases. In 2011, he was named as a Future Research Leader by the Swedish Foundation for Strategic Research.

He is an Associate Professor at the Department of Informatics, Studio Director at Interactive Institute and is one of the Talented Young Rearchers that received a career grant from Umeå University. Molecular Biologist Richard Lundmark studies endocytosis - the process by which molecules enter cells. One of the goals is to design medicines that can block viruses and toxins in cells. He is one of the Talented Young Rearchers that received a career grant from Umeå University. In 2011, he was named as a Future Research Leader by the Swedish Foundation for Strategic Research.
