Priority Areas of Research Collaboration

There are three priority areas of research collaboration at Umeå University; Green Future, Applied IT and the Umeå Arts Campus.

Priority areas of cooperation include research areas with outstanding operations which also has a large regional growth potential. The areas include all sides of  the knowledge triangle: research, education and innovation, as well as collaboration by including special initiatives and externally funded projects.

Green Future consists of the research programme (Future Forests) and the government's designated strategic research energy research (Bio4Energy) and marine research (ECOCHANGE), future biorefineries and research at the Umeå Plant Science Centre (UPSC).

Applied IT has a focus on industrial IT and consists of the interaction centre ProcessIT Innovation, Infotech Umeå, Interactive Institute and UMIT Research Lab.

Umeå Arts Campus, represents the creative environment for innovation that is being created on the brand new campus.
Umeå Arts Campus includes: Umeå Institute of Design, Umeå Academy of Fine Arts and Umeå School of Architecture. In addition, Bildmuseet museum and HUMlab X are located on campus by the scenic riverside. Together, they make a unique environment for research, education and innovation on an artistic basis.

Designing engaging digital products

Daniel Fällman studies how digital products should be designed to engage. He is an Associate Professor at the Department of Informatics, Studio Director at Interactive Institute and is one of the Talented Young Rearchers that received a career grant from Umeå University. In 2011, he was named as a Future Research Leader by the Swedish Foundation for Strategic Research
