Talented Young Researchers

Umeå University supports its young researchers with promising careers in their chosen fields. We have implemented a unique form of grant funding that researchers may apply for up to ten years after earning a doctoral degree.

To date, the university has proved up to SEK 2 million in career grants for each of the 108 most talented young researchers. The grant is titled "Young Researcher Award."

The first Young Reseacher Awards were allotted in 2008 to 71 talented individuals. In 2011, 37 researchers received the grant funding.

The Young Researcher Award is been open for application to those that are young in their academic careers – candidates that have received their doctoral level degree within approximately two to ten years – and are employed at Umeå University. This grant is unique in Sweden. The researchers have been selected following an external evaluation by a panel of experts.
