Local Buses in Umeå

The local buses have their central terminal at Vasaplan in the centre of town. All bus lines are routed through this terminal. This means that catching any bus going in the direction of town you will always have the opportunity to get off the bus in the same stop. Also you can always catch a bus to what ever part of town you are going to from this same terminal. The local busses also have their information and service counter on Vasaplan. This is where you turn if you have questions, or if you for example have forgotten/left something on the bus.

There are several different types of tickets. A single ticket will cost you SEK 24 (SEK 18 if you are 20-25 years old, SEK 12 if you are 19 or younger) and entitles you to ride any local bus to any destination within 1 hour of the purchase of the ticket. If you want to save some money you can buy a card with a mimimum of six trips where each ride costs SEK 17 (for example 10 trips cost SEK 170, SEK 130 if you are 20-25). Each trip on this card functions as a single ticket with 1 hour transfers. If you are going to use the buses a lot the best buy might be a time specific card (30 days, 60 days or 90 days) These cards entitles you to ride the local busses as much as you want during the set time period. If you want the under 20-25 year old discount or the student discount on the 30 day card, you can only buy these at the ULTRA information centre at Vasaplan. All other tickets are available directly on the bus. Children under 7 travel for free when accompanied by an adult.

A one-way ticket costs SEK 40 (or SEK 45 via text messaging) and takes about 15 minutes to the univeristy and about 20 minutes to reach the central bus terminal "Vasaplan".

The airport shuttles also have free transer to all local Ultra buses within two hours.
