Student Housing Areas

The main student housing areas are situated close to the main campus. The distance to campus varies between a 10 to 25 minute walk, or 5 to 10 minutes by bicycle.

Bostaden, the municipal housing company in Umeå, offers student housing in the following areas (neighbourhoods) of Umeå:

Berghem

Situated adjacent to the university campus and approximately 2 km from the city centre. It’s an attractive “1950s era” neighbourhood with houses and low-level apartment buildings. Västerbottens Museum and Bildmuseet are also within short walking distance. T3 Arena, the multi-purpose stadium for Umeå IK women’s football team is also in Berghem.

Please note: Students must be able to show that they are admitted/registered at Umeå University when applying for student housing. Foreign students are highly encouraged to register with Bostaden is early as possible in order to increase their chances of obtaining housing, as the date of registration determines who gets offered an apartment/flat.

Students may also apply for Bostaden's other apartment offerings throughout Umeå and the surrounding areas, which tend to be slightly more expensive.
