In her lecture, Karen argue that post-structuralism after Laclau and especially after radicalised readings of Lacan and the question of libidinal attachments to discursive objects, greatly complicates the business of adjudicating between hegemony and resistance. What follows such an ontology of lack is, at once, everything and nothing much: everything, in so far as we now cannot ignore the unconscious as a political factor, but nothing in the sense that we cannot have direct access to the unconscious and must, therefore, form more or less good judgements about the hegemonic work it accomplishes.
Karen has previously discussed the possibilities of articulating post-structuralism with post humanist ethnographies, and especially of the Actor Network Theory variety.
