The department has a clinical direction, and the Units of Occupational Therapy, Geriatric Medicine, Rehabilitation Medicine, Sports Medicine, Forensic Medicine, and Physiotherapy are all involved in research and education.

Some of the units also have direct connections with respective clinics at the University Hospital of Umeå.

The department provides education within several basic professional training programs and is also responsible for both occupational therapy, training and physical therapy educational programs.

The department is a part of the Faculty of Medicine.
