Course package in biomedical engineering

The biomedical engineering (BME) department is located at the Umeå University Hospital and cooperates closely with clinical specialists and researchers. Examples of clinical research fields where we have strong BME research activity are clinical neuroscience, ophthalmology, clinical physiology, neuroradiology and physiotherapy. Examples of BME areas where we have international renowned research are, brain imaging, heart rate variability, intracranial biofluid mechanics, medical sensors, ultrasound imaging and movement analysis. All areas include advanced signal and image analysis.

Here below we have listed the courses in our fall course package. Together, the five courses equal one semester full time studies. If you choose to take the whole course package you will get a broad understanding of the BME field, from safety to sensors and advanced computations. The package is well suited for engineering students who aim to work with medical equipment and research or just wants to broaden their perspectives in the field. It is also possible to combine our courses with other studies at Umeå University.

First half of fall semester

Biomedical sensors and analyses (7.5 credits)
Biofluid Mechanics (7.5 credits)

Second half of fall semester

Applied medical imaging (7.5 credits)
From prototype to product, from a CE perspective (3.5 credits)
Safety in biomedical engineering and hazard analysis (4 credits)
