Department of Surgical and Perioperative Sciences

We conduct clinical and translational research as well as education at basic, advanced and postgraduate level in six different subject areas as well as one centre, the Knowledge Center for Disaster Medicine KcKM. Teaching is provided within the Medical Program and the Biomedicine Program, the Biomedical Analyst Program and the Program for International Crisis and Conflict Management.

About us

We conduct research and education with a clinical approach, which means that we work in close cooperation with the medicinal care and the patients. At the department we conduct research and education within seven different clinical areas and each area is represented by a section. The areas and sections are

  • Anesthesiology and Intensive Care Medicine
  • Hand and Plastic Surgery
  • Surgery
  • Clinical Physiology
  • Orthopaedics
  • Urology and Andrology

Education

We have both undergraduate and doctoral graduate education. As for undergraduate education we are responsible for separate courses or parts of courses within four different programmes: The Medicinal Programme, The Biomedicine Programme, The Biomedical Laboratory Science Programme, and The International Crisis and Conflict Management Programme. As for doctoral graduate education we provide education for those who wish to doctorate within our different clinical areas.

Research

Our research is both clinical and translational (experimental), which means that it is conducted in close cooperation with the medicinal care as well as in the laboratory. All our sections perform researches within their own clinical areas.
