Water is of crucial importance for all forms of life and represents a key component in nature and in many industrial processes. The course will describe chemical reactions in natural aquatic systems with focus on metal complexes in biological and geochemical systems. An important element is analysis and modeling of metal ion speciation to understand bio-uptake, toxicity and transport. Reactions at surfaces are important in systems with biological macromolecules and in common minerals and will be treated. Laboratory exercises to characterize chemical processes in aqueous environments are an integral part of the course.
The course will be given in english if foreign students participate.
