About course

The course examines how organisations manage information technology (IT) as a resource in their operations. Emphasis is placed on how organisations manage structures, processes, human resources and technology in order to achieve their objectives. More specifically the course focuses in the social, technological and political aspects associated with the management of IT in organisations. The course includes a critical analysis of the opportunities and risks which IT incurs for organisations. This analysis integrates concepts and frameworks from a number of disciplines such as innovation theory, organisation studies and IT management.

Required Knowledge

Univ: 90 ECTS in one of the following subjects; Informatics, Business Administration, Education, Psychology, Political Science, or Sociology (or equivalent).

Proficiency in English equivalent to Swedish upper secondary course English A (IELTS (Academic) with a minimum overall score of 5.5 and no individual score below 5.0. TOEFL PBT (Paper-based Test) with a minimum total score of 530 and a minimum TWE score of 4. TOEFL iBT (Internet-based Test) with a minimum total score of 72 and a minimum score of 17 on the Writing Section).

Where the language of instruction is Swedish, applicants must prove proficiency in Swedish to the level required for basic eligibility for higher studies.

Selection

Academic credits Applicants in some programs at Umeå University have guaranteed admission to this course. The number of places for a single course may therefore be limited.
