Description and theory of nonlinear wave phenomena in physical systems. In particular generic derivations of the Korteweg de Vries equation and the nonlinear Schrödinger equation. Coupled systems and non-local effects, multiple time-scale techniques, variational methods and parametric processes.
90 credits including Analytical Mechanics and Electrodynamics or equivalent. Swedish for basic eligibility for higher education programmes and English A/5. Requirements for Swedish only apply if the course is held in Swedish.
