About the course

  • Programme/course information

Before course start you may as repetition watch the video lecture about functional groups. We expect that you are aware of the most common functional groups and how the atoms are linked in those. A quiz is linked to this video lecture, which may give you bonus points for the exam if you answer correct.

Tutorials, exercises, virtual reality sessions and the mandatory workshops and labs will be on Campus.  You already now have access to the Canvas course page, which contains detailed course information. Please go to the Canvas course page before the course start in order to get comfortable with the content and to be well prepared for the first days. The course will be given in a ”flipped classroom” format, which means that the lectures are available in a video format online on Canvas. You should have watched the video lectures and other important material for the particular chapter before the scheduled classroom activities start. You find information about the particular chapter that we will work on and that you should be prepared for in the schedule. Connected to the lectures and classroom activities you have the option to answer a quiz. The quiz is open until 9 pm (21.00) the evening before we start to work with the lessons connected to a particular chapter. Based on your results on the quiz you may have the opportunity to get bonus points that you can count in the total score of the final exam.

  • Course literature

Course literature is: Solomons´ Organic Chemistry.  Global edition, T W Graham Solomons, Craig B Fryhle, Scott A Snyder, ISBN: 978-1-119-24897-2 (paperback).

It is very important that you take time to also read in the course book (Solomons), it is much more rich in details compared to the video lectures and cover the theory that you are expected to learn. The video lectures are aimed as a support that gives you an overview of the most important sections discussed in the book. We also use selected problems from the book to work with during the classroom lessons.
