About the course

The course focus on advanced statistical methods for population analysis and provides knowledge on main demographic concepts. Throughout the course students will learn and apply different methods and analyses for various types of demographic data, such as register data, surveys, censuses and church books. By using unique Swedish and international population data in practical sessions, the students will develop and practice their knowledge in longitudinal data preparation, processing and analyses such as multilevel analysis. 
This is a course at Master's level in a MSc-degree at Umeå University.

Required Knowledge

A Bachelor’s degree (equivalent to a Swedish Kandidatexamen, 180 ECTS) from an internationally recognized university. Special requirements: 90 ECTS in any of the subjects: human geography, geography, statistics, sociology, economics, history, epidemiology, psychology, demography, population studies or other related subjects. You will also need at least 7.5 ECTS of quantitative methods or equivalent. Proficiency in English equivalent to Swedish upper secondary course English B/6.
