About the course

The course is divided in three modules. During the first part of the course the historical background and recent developments of qualitative research methods are introduced. Basic ontological and epistemological assumptions are discussed. Attention is also directed to subjects such as research ethics, analytical procedures, presentation of results, and transferability. During the second part of the course different qualitative traditions are presented, in order to gain a more in-depth understanding of qualitative research practice. This part consists of both theoretical discussion and practical exercises. The third part of the course is dedicated to the individual examination paper. In this paper students are expected to reflect on the ontological and epistemological assumptions and/or the practice of qualitative research methods in relation to one or several of the traditions presented during the course.

The course is taught in English.
