Contents

During the course the research process and scientific documentation is studied, which includes analysis, interpretation, and presentation of results. In addition, the course contains article search, summary and presentation of scientific publications, critical review, discussion of human rights and ethical aspects in biomedical research and ethical assessment.

Expected learning outcomes

Knowledge and understanding
After having passed the course the student should:

  • Have knowledge of the Declaration of Helsinki and ethical assessment within biomedical research.

Skills and abilities
After having passed the course the student should:

  • be able to interpret statistics and present results both orally and in writing,
  • be able to use databases and find relevant scientific articles,
  • be able to summarize and present a scientific study.

Assessment and approach
After having passed the course the student should:

  • be able to critically review a scientific work,
  • be able to discuss ethical aspects in biomedical research,
  • be able to take into account human rights in research

Required Knowledge

Admission to the course requires at least 90 Credits within the area of biomedical laboratory science or in another way have obtained equivalent knowledge.

Form of instruction

The teaching is given in the forms of lectures, group work and seminars. Attendance at calls and seminars is mandatory.

Examination modes

Examination takes place with individual written home exams (grading scale: VG/G/U). For the approved course, approved seminar assignments and home exams are required. For the grade passed with honors on the entire course, VG is also required on the home exams.

The student has the right to have a grade re-examined by the examiner and the decision can be changed, provided that it can be done quickly and easily and that the grade is not lowered. After two revisions of the manuscript by the examiner, the student can request a new examiner by the Program Council. The application should be sent to the Program Council of Biomedical Laboratory Science Program and is granted by the Program Council.
