Welcome to Theoretical Medicinal Chemistry

How to start

  • 2. Activate your user account and MFA

As a new student, you need to activate your user account (your Umu-id) approximately two weeks prior to the start of the semester.

With your user account you can:

    • register for courses
    • access the internet in computer labs and the university's wireless network
    • submit assignments and verify your study results
    • access your student e-mail

If you are a new student, you will automatically receive a user account when you are admitted, but you will need to activate it for it to function properly. You will not be able to activate it until approximately two weeks prior to the start of the semester.

Install MFA for a more secure login
To increase security and reduce the risk of unauthorised access to your information or account, students must enable multi-factor authentication (MFA) to log in to various systems, such as Canvas and the Student Web.

About the course

  • Programme/course information

    Course outline

The course literature (“An introduction to medicinal chemistry” by Graham L. Patrick, fifth edition) is absolutely central to the course. On the course web site, Canvas you will find short video lectures that introduce the most important areas and concepts in the textbook. These are intended as pre-reading introductions.

On the first day of the course you will get one assignment; a written report on a specific medicinal chemistry topic that will require literature searches on the topic and preparation of a written report. The report should be exchanged with another student so that you correct each other’s reports before finally being handed in to the course coordinator. The written report should also be summarized in a 15-min oral presentation with opposition, which also means that you will oppose to one of your fellow student’s presentations.

The course also involves compulsory workshops that will help you with the written reports and give you hands-on experience in the use of computers in medicinal chemistry. In addition to this, the course also includes group exercises connected to the text book chapters, invited lecturers, and a final written exam. The details for all these parts will be given to you on the course introduction and will also be available on Canvas.
