Microbiology and Basic Molecular Biology

About the course

The course contents include the molecular procees which control growth, structure and function of prokaryotic and eukaryotic organisms. The focu is on the gentic information flow according to the Central dogma, in particular regulation of transcription, translation, and DNA replication. Basic prokaryotic genetics, including transfer of genetic material, bacterial physiology including resistance mechanisms for atibiotics are also included. The course offers training in microbiological and molecular biological wotk methodology and training in reading, discussing, and presenting scientific original literature in Micobiology and Molecular Biology.

The course is divided intor three parts.

Laboration 5 ECTS-credits
Practical Professional Training (PPT) - oral presentation 2 ECTS-credits

Required Knowledge

20 ECTS from finished courses in Chemistry, including at least 5 ECTS in Biochemistry, or alternatively, 20 ECTS from a combination of finished courses in Chemistry and Physics and/or Mathematics, including at least 5 ECTS in Biochemistry.

Selection

Students applying for courses within a double degree exchange agreement, within the departments own agreements will be given first priority. Then will - in turn - candidates within the departments own agreements, faculty agreements, central exchange agreements and other departmental agreements be selected.
