Before you begin the enrolment and registration process, there are some important things you need to do before classes begin. We have listed here what needs to be done and when. If you cannot find the answers to your questions, please complete the contact form at the bottom of this page and we will respond promptly. You have been admitted, but in order to keep your place (seat), you must reply to the Notification of Selection results at Universityadmissions.se by the key dates specified.
You can reply to your offer by logging in to 'My pages', go to your Notification of Selection Results, and follow the instructions. You should click the 'Yes' box for the alternatives that you'd like to keep.
If you don't reply by the deadline, you will lose any places - accepted and waiting list - that you've been offered.
Do you not wish to keep your place? Then you should decline your offer by clicking the 'No' box. In doing so, you free up your place to someone who is on the waiting list.
If you see "Reserve" next to your course or programme in the Notification of selection results, this means that you've been placed on a waiting list for that course/programme.
If you are in need of special support due to disability, you should apply for that in good time before you start your studies. Find more information about support for studying with disabilities.
In order to start your studies at the programme, you have to register for it in Portalen. You need to be registered for the course in the study documentation system to be able to follow the course and to get your results recorded during the course. Online registration in Portalen is open between 22/08/2017 and 29/08/2017. It is very important that you sign in to Portalen and register during that time period, or otherwise you risk losing your place (seat).

The year starts off with an introduction meeting where you will meet the other students and staff. We will meet in the theatre in the school of Architecture at 9 AM on the 28th of August.
A schedule for the first weeks will be made available on our website four weeks before the start of the semester.
Are you unable to attend the introduction meeting? Be sure to notify us beforehand! If you cannot attend the introduction and have not notified us, you will not be registered and risk losing your place (seat). Please send a message to Adrian Löwander (email@example.com) before the 28th of August so you will be registered for the course even if you are unable to be present for the course start, and you will keep your place.

International students are recommended to arrive at least a few days before the start of the regular term (preferably prior to the Orientation Course). If you fail to arrive on time, you have to contact the study counselor as soon as possible, but not later than one week ahead of the course start, or you may not be able to register for the programme.
If you will have housing through the International Housing Office you will receive information about your arrival in your offer of housing.
Don't forget! Umeå has cold winters, so pack accordingly with a warm jacket, warm shoes, gloves and hat, etc.Close
We strongly recommend that you take part in the Orientation Course, which is open for all international students. The Orientation Course will give you the opportunity to get acquainted with Umeå and Umeå University. It is also a great chance to make friends with other international students. The schedule for the coming term will be available on the site below one month before the beginning of the term. There may be last minute changes to the schedule, so you should check for updates before you leave home or when you get to Umeå.Close
As a new student, you need to activate your user account approximately two weeks prior to the term start in order to, for instance:
If you are a new student, you will automatically receive a user account when you are admitted, but you will need to activate it for it to function properly. You will not be able to activate it until approximately two weeks prior to the term start.

If you are having problems activating your account or logging in, please contact our Servicedesk. You will find answers to common questions, and can submit enquiries.
When you are on Campus Umeå, Umeå Arts Campus or Campus Örnsköldsvik, you will need a UmU card. The card has the following functions:
About one week after you have activated your user account, you will receive an e-mail about how to apply for the UmU card. It will be send to your student e-mail account (firstname.lastname@example.org), so remember to test logging in to confirm that it works.

The website for current students has all sorts of information about services, support, legal and practical matters at Umeå University. You can sign in to the Cambro and Moodle learning platforms, and to Portalen (where you will find personal services such as your student e-mail, University Library services and where you can create study certificates, apply for a degree and change your temporary address).
