WELCOME TO THE COURSE

Master's Programme in Mathematical Statistics

Welcome to the Master's Programme in Mathematical Statistics at Umeå University! Before you can start the programme there are some administrative formalities that should be taken care of. In the letter below you can read about these, and you will also find some more information about the programme, the University and life as a student. We hope to see you in the autumn!

How to start

  • 2. Course registration

When you have accepted your place (seat) on the programme, you must register for courses.

During the first half of the semester, you will take the mandatory course Research in the Mathematical Sciences in parallell with Advanced Probability. (You may substitute another course of your choice for Advanced Probability if you have already taken an equivalent course. If you intend to do so, you should contact the programme director ahead of time.)

Registration to Research in the Mathematical Sciences takes place at the course start/programme introduction, August 31

Registration to Advanced Probability take place at the course start or by online self-registration (see the course website).

If you are unable to attend the programme introduction at the beginning of the course Research in the Mathematical Sciences, you must notify our Education Administrator Jennie Ohlsson (jennie.ohlsson@umu.se) as soon as possible and strictly before August 31, and you will be registered and get to keep your place, even if you cannot attend the start of the course.

  • 3. Course start

    Monday August 31, 2020

    Time: 13:15

    Location: MA356

The course Research in the Mathematical Sciences kicks off with registration and a programme introduction. This constitutes the official start of the programme.

The International Office at Umeå University will arrange an Orientation Course for international students (starting Wednesday 26th of August). It is recommended that all international students attend it.
The schedule for that will be found here.

You will be allowed to arrive up to three weeks late for the programme (although it is definitely not recommended — this possibility has only been introduced to take into account potential disruptions to international travel arising from the covid19 epidemic and/or unexpected delays in visa formalities).

If you arrive at Umeå University before 4.30 p.m. Monday the 21st of September you will still have a seat at the program. If you arrive later than this date and time, you will no longer have a seat at the program and will have to return home as your residence permit will be revoked. No later arrival is permitted.

If you do think you may arrive late to the programme, you should contact the programme director Victor Falgas-Ravry (victor.falgas-ravry@umu.se) as soon as possible so you can discuss possible arrangements to help your studies and mitigate the effects of a late arrival.
