Master's Programme in Robotics and Control

  • Number of credits 120 credits

The Master’s Programme in Robotics and Control is interdisciplinary with courses that cover important aspects of modern robotics, such as autonomous systems, field robotics, artificial intelligence, computer vision, mobile robots, embedded systems, modelling and control systems. Lectures, lab work, projects and assignments are closely connected to ongoing research at Umeå University.

While studying

The education consists of lectures, group exercises, seminars, laboratory work, assignments, and projects. Many courses contain a large portion of laboratory work to provide hands-on experience using the state of the art software and hardware. Your study focus may be put on artificial intelligence, related robotics or control related robotics, depending on your interests. It is also possible and encouraged to personalize the programme by selecting additional courses according to own interests and including them in the diploma. All instruction is in English.

Parallell courses

Typically the students study two courses in parallel for a period that is a half of a semester. Each study period ends with an exam period. Every course has three written examination opportunities each year. The programme also includes a one-semester project work of 30 ECTS. It is defended orally and documented in the form of a written Master's Thesis.

Programme overview

Career opportunities

With a Master's degree in Robotics and Control you can conduct research and develop new and advanced technologies. This can for example be unmanned vehicles, high level automation of construction machinery, mining equipment, process control in factories, computer vision related products, simulation softwares, advanced sensor systems, and wearable systems.

There is an increasing need for engineers who can design, build, and maintain complex, automated, and intelligent systems of today and of the future.

Further studies?

A Master's degree in Robotics and Control also makes you eligible for PhD studies and opens up possibilities for an academic career in robotics and control systems.
