Contents

The course objectives are that the student should acquire a digital competence which includes knowledge, skills and approaches required to work with IT in learning situations. The course is designed primarily for people who works with digitizing education in primary and secondary schools, such as teachers, ICT educators or school leaders. The course has a clear connection to the Swedish National Agency for Education´s national strategies for school digitization 2017-2022. The course explores concepts related to digitization at school, planning one self’s and others' continuing education on ICT and learning and study how to evaluate and introduce ICT for learning purposes in schools. 

Expected learning outcomes

By the end of the course, students will be able to:

Knowledge and Understanding

  • show knowledge and understanding of the concept of digital competence in relation to learning.

Skills and Abilities

  • apply ICT support for production and publication of digital learning resources through programming,
  • review and create plans / strategies relating to the introduction of IT for learning,
  • discuss implementation strategies of ICT use in schools,
  • plan professional development on ICT and learning, and
  • create lesson planning where programming plays a central role.

Values and Attitudes

  • discuss and reflect on the concepts of computational thinking and programming,
  • carry out a relevant and from a research perspective well-argued discussion about opportunities and challenges with ICT in school from a value-based perspective,
  • discuss and reflect on preventive work for children and young people's use of contemporary learning environments in relation to safe learning environments, bullying, abusive actions, and gender, and
  • demonstrate examples of how today's and tomorrow's ICT can be used as support for learning and analyze this with a critical approach.

Form of instruction

The course has mandatory parts that demands physical presence at campus, see further in the course schedule and study guide. The course will be delivered by a combination of lectures, seminars, guided individual work and student presentations.

Examination modes

Physical presence in mandatory parts is demanded for passed result on the course if not otherwise written in current schedule and study guide.

The course is assessed by written assignments.

To pass the course it is required that all compulsory parts are passed. The course results are defined by the examiner overall assessment of the students learning outcomes. Possible grades are Passed with distinction, Passed, or Failed.

The course work is examined at the ordinary examination or re-examined at a later occasion during the same semester. An opportunity to re-examine the course work is normally given in the following semester provided the student has requested it. After that a student with a fail is advised to participate in the next ordinary examination. 

A student has the right to change examiner for a course based on a written request to the head of department after two fails on the same course or a part of the course.

Transfer of credits

A negative decision about transfer of credits is possible to appeal to Överklagandenämnden för högskolan, http://www.onh.se/in-english
