This years invited lecturer is Carolina Sartorio, Rutgers. She will give three open lectures over three days on the theme of Responsibility for Consequences.

Lecture 1: Basic and Non-Basic Responsibility: Against Unification

Abstract: Unlike the basic kind of responsibility, the non-basic kind (responsibility for consequences, or “out in the world” things) is a form of moral responsibility that is inherited from something else. Should we still expect these two forms of responsibility to be unified in some significant way? Is unification a virtue of a theory of responsibility? Some have thought so. I first argue against unification. I then draw consequences for debates about the relevance of alternative possibilities to moral responsibility.

More Burman Lectures

Lecture 2: Responsibility, Causation, and the Problem of Collective Harms
Wednesday 20 May at 13.15-15.00 PM in Lecture Hall HUM.D.220 – Hjortronlandet

Lecture 3: Grounding Responsibility for Consequences
Thursday 21 May at 13.15-15.00 PM in Lecture Hall HUM.D.220 – Hjortronlandet

All interested are welcome to these lectures.

The 2026 Burman Lectures are supported by a generous contribution from Vitterhetsakademin.

Learn more about the Burman Lectures

Learn more about Carolina Sartorio

</atom:content><place>Lecture Hall HUM.D.220 – Hjortronlandet, Humanities Building, Umeå University</place><type>Lecture</type>
<startdatum>2026-05-19T13:15:00+02:00</startdatum><slutdatum>2026-05-19T15:00:00+02:00</slutdatum>

Everyday Colonialism: Inuit Lives and Work in Arctic Nunavik

Welcome to a seminar with guest researcher Caroline Hervé from Université Laval (Québec, Canada).

<atom:content type="html">
Welcome to a seminar with guest researcher Caroline Hervé from Université Laval (Québec, Canada).

Caroline Hervés research focuses on the historical and contemporary relationships between state institutions and Inuit communities in Nunavik (Canadian Arctic), in a context shaped by enduring colonial relations. Drawing on ethnographic research, I conduct several projects within state institutions, which I approach as privileged space‑times for observing both the coexistence and the frictions between Inuit and non‑Inuit ways of being in the world.

By carrying out research across a range of public services — including the courts, policing, civil security, health care, social services and academic institutions — she develops a comparative and cross‑sectoral perspective. This approach aims to examine the relationships between the various actors involved, both employees and service users, the ways in which they encounter one another in everyday interactions, and how they perceive and negotiate their place within these relationships.

This analysis highlights the persistence and reproduction of colonial power relations as they unfold through ordinary, everyday interactions, producing forms of structural violence, particularly through bureaucratic logics. It also underscores the central role played by cultural mediators — such as interpreters or Inuit employees acting as cultural translators — as well as the importance of subtle, everyday strategies of resistance.

Caroline Hervés research is situated at the intersection of political anthropology, and more specifically the anthropology of the state, Indigenous studies, and Inuit studies. It is conducted within the framework of partnership‑based and participatory research projects, through which, drawing inspiration from Indigenous research methodologies, she develops approaches that prioritize the creation of sustained and meaningful relationships with research participants. This perspective recognizes Inuit as cultural experts and involves an ongoing engagement with reflexivity and researcher positionality.

Bio

Caroline Hervé is an associate professor in the Department of Anthropology at Université Laval (Canada). She also holds the Research Chair in Relations with Inuit Societies, through which she seeks to generate new knowledge about the history and social dynamics of Inuit societies, develop training and educational tools for non-Inuit, and give Inuit a central role in research production.

She specializes in political anthropology and analyzes the ontological dimensions of intercultural encounters in contexts marked by colonial relations. She is the author of the book Le pouvoir vient d'ailleurs. Leadership et coopération chez les Inuit du Nunavik (PUL, 2015) and several scientific articles. She is a member of the Interuniversity Center for Indigenous Studies and Research (Université Laval) and the Institut nordique du Québec. Using robotic screening and several fluorescently tagged libraries, we can monitor thousands of strains in parallel and follow protein behaviour across conditions. We have established pipelines to measure growth and have manually scored microscopy datasets, creating a curated, high-quality annotated resource from epifluorescence imaging (with confocal data coming soon).

Where we want help:
We now want to scale this further by systematically analysing protein localisation, aggregation, and changes in organelle shape under stress, where we expect to uncover new phenotypes and compare them to published data. To achieve this, we want to automate both image processing and phenotype scoring—and are looking for ideas and expertise to make this faster, more robust, and scalable.

Pitch 2: Preeti Moar, Postdoc at Department of Clinical Microbiology

Early life immune programming and infection risk

Frequent infections in early childhood impose a substantial and largely preventable burden on children, families, and healthcare systems. Yet even in settings with relatively uniform healthcare access and high vaccination coverage, children show striking differences in how often they are sick. Why some get infections repeatedly while others remain resilient remains poorly understood. Leveraging the NorthPop birth cohort, we address this question by integrating early‑life immune data with detailed registry‑based information on prenatal, environmental, and socioeconomic exposures. The biological focus is on early immune programming, including immune factors transferred from the mother as well as the child’s developing mucosal immune system, which serves as the first line of defense against infections. The analytical focus is on modeling how these immune processes interact with environmental context over time and on identifying how divergent infection trajectories, together with vulnerability or resilience, emerge from these interacting systems in early life.

Interested in: Collaborations around innovative analytical methods for complex data analysis.

Where is it?

KBC Glasburen, near the KBC café. This years invited lecturer is Carolina Sartorio, Rutgers University. Some think that we can only be responsible for what we cause, and that our responsibility for an outcome is always grounded in having caused it; in contrast, others think that we can be responsible for outcomes that we don’t cause, as in the case of collective harms, and that our responsibility in those cases is grounded in other factors. I first argue against both views—I argue that they fail for the same reason: they are too dependent on the truth of controversial metaphysical assumptions. I then put forth an alternative view that is more metaphysically neutral (and independently plausible). Finally, I draw consequences for the problem of collective harms.

More Burman Lectures

Lecture 1: Basic and Non-Basic Responsibility: Against Unification
Tuesday 19 May at 13.15-15.00 PM in Lecture Hall HUM.D.220 – Hjortronlandet

Lecture 3: Grounding Responsibility for Consequences
Thursday 21 May at 13.15-15.00 PM in Lecture Hall HUM.D.220 – Hjortronlandet

All interested are welcome to these lectures.

The 2026 Burman Lectures are supported by a generous contribution from Vitterhetsakademin.

Learn more about the Burman Lectures

Learn more about Carolina Sartorio

</atom:content><place>Umeå University, Humanities Building, Lecture Hall HUM.D.220 – Hjortronlandet</place><type>Lecture</type>
<startdatum>2026-05-20T13:15:00+02:00</startdatum><slutdatum>2026-05-20T15:00:00+02:00</slutdatum>

EC2U Science Contest 2026

Watch online and vote for Umeå University in the EC2U Science Contest 2026. Among the more common varieties are thermoluminescence (TL), mainly applied to pottery and other fired materials; optically stimulated luminescence (OSL), more often applied to sediment; and luminescence profiling (POSL), a relative dating tool. Apart from some older TL dating, luminescence has not been used very much in Swedish archaeological contexts. However, at the Lund Luminescence Laboratory (LLL) we have during the last few years worked together with archaeologists to explore applications of luminescence in different settings and the number of archaeological luminescence ages is increasing.

In this talk, I’ll give a brief overview of how the method works and then move on to a series of archaeological case studies, based on research at the LLL. The dated settings include, for example, road tracks, cairns, floors, ovens and hearths, wall remains and sand-covered cultural layers with a time span from the Neolithic to Medieval and historic times. The aim is to show what the technique can and cannot do in practice, and to offer a sense of what luminescence can contribute to research questions about, for example, construction histories, site use, and broader landscape development.

About the seminar series

The Research Seminar Series in Archaeology and Environmental Archaeology presents and discusses current research in archaeology and environmental archaeology.
See more upcoming seminars in the series
</atom:content><place>HUM.H.119</place><type>Seminar</type>
<startdatum>2026-05-21T13:00:00+02:00</startdatum><slutdatum>2026-05-21T15:00:00+02:00</slutdatum>

The Burman Lectures 2026(3)

Welcome to this years Burman lectures in philosophy with Carolina Sartorio, Rutgers. This years invited lecturer is Carolina Sartorio, Rutgers University. She will give three open lectures over three days on the theme of Responsibility for Consequences.

Lecture 3: Grounding Responsibility for Consequences

Abstract: In the two previous lectures I motivated a particular way of thinking about non-basic moral responsibility, and I hinted at some possible applications of the view. In this final lecture I discuss other applications that, I think, help cement the view. I first draw attention to the grounding structure of non-basic responsibility. I then explain how this bears on the debate about tracing as well as on our responsibility in complex cases, including scenarios of overdetermination of various kinds and scenarios of causal deviance.

More Burman Lectures

Lecture 1: Basic and Non-Basic Responsibility: Against Unification
Tuesday 19 May at 13.15-15.00 PM in Lecture Hall HUM.D.220 – Hjortronlandet

Lecture 2: Responsibility, Causation, & the Problem of Collective Harms
Wednesday 20 May at 13.15-15.00 PM in Lecture Hall HUM.D.220 – Hjortronlandet

All interested are welcome to these lectures.

The 2026 Burman Lectures are supported by a generous contribution from Vitterhetsakademin.

Learn more about the Burman Lectures

Learn more about Carolina Sartorio

</atom:content><place>Umeå University, Humanities Building, Lecture Hall HUM.D.220 – Hjortronlandet</place><type>Lecture</type>
<startdatum>2026-05-21T13:15:00+02:00</startdatum><slutdatum>2026-05-21T15:00:00+02:00</slutdatum>

Kickstart: Prototyping

Welcome to KICKSTART: PROTOTYPING 21/5 – your first step toward turning ideas into reality!

<atom:content type="html">
Welcome to KICKSTART: PROTOTYPING 21/5 – your first step toward turning ideas into reality!

Ready to turn your idea into reality? In this talk, I will explore how scientists search for signs of life on the Red Planet by following chemical clues found in water, organic molecules, minerals, and microorganisms. Drawing on laboratory studies of Mars-relevant materials and microbial systems, we will examine the kinds of signatures life may leave behind, and how chemistry helps us address one of humanity’s biggest questions: Are we alone?
(approx. 40 min)

19:00 Wisdome Premiere: Dark Biosphere
Deep beneath the Earth’s crust, far from light and oxygen, microorganisms thrive in extreme environments once thought to be completely lifeless. This immersive show explores the “dark biosphere” – a hidden world of life that is reshaping our understanding of how and where life can exist. Could similar forms of life exist on other planets?
(approx. 30 min)

Booking

You can reserve your place free of charge via the link below. Using advanced spectroscopic techniques, she examines how minerals and rocks can preserve water and support life-sustaining processes.

Her research connects laboratory studies with data from Mars missions, including satellite and rover analyses, to identify potential signs of life. At the intersection of biogeochemistry, astrobiology and planetary science, her work seeks to answer a fundamental question: Is there – or has there ever been – life on Mars?

She collaborates with leading international institutions such as SETI and NASA, alongside several major research organisations.

Welcome to us!

Curiosum Science Center
We are open 10 AM–4 PM on weekends, public holidays and school holidays, Wednesday evenings 5–9 PM, and selected Thursday evenings. The conjuncture of the climate crisis, planetary urbanization and ecological disruption has sharpened scholarly and political attention to the material dimensions of capitalist development. In geography and cognate fields, infrastructure has emerged as an analytical concept and set of material phenomena for understanding how capital reshapes the built environment and natural world. And yet, the large-scale earth moving work that underpins many infrastructures—literally or operationally—has received limited attention in these conversations. We approach dredging as a central but underexamined practice through which global capitalism shapes and is, in turn, shaped by earth systems. By tracing the historical emergence, global expansion, and dominant position of the Dutch-Belgian dredging industry cluster, we theorize and historicize dredge capital as a material and institutional formation that reorganizes geohydrological systems to sustain accumulation, even as it generates ecological contradictions. Our analysis demonstrates that, in the age of logistics-led development and climate anxiety, contemporary capitalism’s capacity to endure environmental disruption depends increasingly on its ability to mobilize dredging as a spatial and geomorphological fix to its own crises of accumulation and ecological instability.

Henrik Erntsson is Professor and Docent in Political Ecology at KTH Royal Institute of Technology in Stockholm, Honorary Senior Research Scholar in Human Geography at The University of Manchester, UK, where he previously worked as Lecturer. In this talk I will argue that this picture is incomplete. Drawing on recordings from single sensory axons in awake, actively moving humans, combined with electromyographic and robotic perturbation paradigms, I will show that peripheral muscle sensory organs are not passive transducers but tuneable signal-processing devices whose output depends on context, goals, and experience. I will discuss what this implies for our understanding of perception, action, motor learning, and the neural basis of sensorimotor decline with ageing.

Bio

Michael Dimitriou completed his PhD at the Department of Integrative Medical Biology at Umeå University, where he studied the neurophysiology of muscle receptors. He returned to Umeå, where he has been leading his own research group for more than a decade, and has for several years been employed as an Associate Professor at the Department of Medical and Translational Biology.

About the seminar series

Learn more about the Umeå Cognitive Science Seminar and upcoming events
</atom:content><place>HUM.H.119</place><type>Seminar</type>
<startdatum>2026-05-26T15:15:00+02:00</startdatum><slutdatum>2026-05-26T16:00:00+02:00</slutdatum>

Medchem Seminar Series - Laura Zanetti-Polzi

Title: "A multiscale perspective on photoinduced electron transfer in biosystems"

<atom:content type="html">
Speaker:

Laura Zanetti-Polzi

Center S3, Institute of Nanoscience, National Research Council, Italy

Title:

A multiscale perspective on photoinduced electron transfer in biosystems

Host: Nicolò Maccaferri (UCMR)

More information about the MedChem Seminar Series and the schedule is here.
</atom:content><place>KB.E3.01 (Lilla hörsalen), KBC</place><type>Seminar</type>
<startdatum>2026-05-26T15:15:00+02:00</startdatum><slutdatum>2026-05-26T16:00:00+02:00</slutdatum>

C-Trap

SciLifeLab Umeå/KBC Infrastructure lunch seminar

<atom:content type="html">
SciLifeLab Umeå and KBC warmly welcome you to participate in the lunch seminar on Wednesday, 27 May:

"C-Trap: combined optical tweezers, confocal microscopy and microfluidics for the study of single-molecule dynamics and mechanics"

Presenter:

Rubén Casanova-Sáez, Manager of the C-trap Facility, Department of Plant Physiology, Umeå Plant Science Centre, Umeå University

Description:

The C-Trap facility at KBC provides access to a dual-trap C-Trap Dymo 300 system, an integrated platform that combines optical tweezers, multichannel microfluidics, and fluorescence microscopy. This unique setup enables simultaneous manipulation, visualization, and force measurement of biomolecules with sub-nanometer spatial precision and sub-millisecond temporal resolution. Based on highly focused laser beams, optical tweezers can trap and control microscopic particles, allowing precise application and detection of forces in the picoNewton range at the single-molecule level.

The facility supports real-time investigations of biomolecular interactions under near-physiological conditions, including DNA–protein and RNA–protein binding, protein folding, and conformational dynamics. Integration with confocal fluorescence microscopy enables direct observation of molecular events such as binding, translocation, and structural changes, while the microfluidics system allows rapid exchange of reagents and environmental conditions during experiments. This correlative approach provides simultaneous access to mechanical and biochemical information within a single experiment, overcoming limitations of traditional bulk assays that average out heterogeneous or transient behaviors.

In this seminar, I will introduce the C-Trap instrument and its capabilities, outline the support available to facility users, and present selected examples of research enabled by the C-Trap.

Learn more about the C-Trap Facility at UMU: https://www.umu.se/en/research/infrastructure/c-trap-facility/

Location:

The seminar will be held at Glasburen, in the KBC-building, Linnaeus väg 6, 90736 Umeå (link to Mazemap).

Registration:

Register to book your free lunch by May 25 at 10:00, or drop in on the day to hear the talk with no lunch: Register here.

Online participation (no registration is required):

https://umu.zoom.us/j/61307079123

Meeting ID: 613 0707 9123

More information about the SciLifeLab Umeå/KBC Infrastructure seminar series and the schedule is here.

Organisers: SciLifeLab Umeå and KBC
</atom:content><place>Glasburen, KBC, and Zoom</place><type>Seminar</type>
<startdatum>2026-05-27T12:00:00+02:00</startdatum><slutdatum>2026-05-27T13:00:00+02:00</slutdatum>

Relationality, emotions, motivations & environmental values

Welcome to a seminar with visiting researcher Kaisa Vainio from the University of Turku.

<atom:content type="html">
Welcome to a seminar with Kaisa Vainio from the University of Turku, who is a visiting researcher at the Department of Historical, Philosophical and Religious Studies during May 2026. Drawing on research with migrant and mainstream influencers in the US, Spain, and Switzerland, it explores three dimensions of visual (im)mobility in algorithmic environments: literal, metaphorical, and platformed. Migrants remain constrained by political tensions, oppressive legislation, and anti-immigration sentiment that immobilize them through hateful engagement and problematic coverage. Platform moderation, online hate, and commercial interests create differential content mobilities, raising challenges for studying social phenomena within platform architectures that shape visibility hierarchies.

</atom:content><place>Galaxen</place><type>Seminar</type>
<startdatum>2026-05-28T12:15:00+02:00</startdatum><slutdatum>2026-05-28T13:00:00+02:00</slutdatum>

Intersecting inequalities

Welcome to a CEDAR seminar with Fardosa Green, Department of Sociology and CEDAR.

<atom:content type="html">
Welcome to a CEDAR seminar with Fardosa Green, Department of Sociology and CEDAR.

Intersecting inequalities: mens' involvement in unpaid labour over time and across countries

All interested are welcome to participate in CEDAR seminars. Our recent work uncovered a complementary strategy: defense-associated reverse transcriptases (DRTs) that use template RNAs to direct DNA synthesis during phage infection. DRT2 and DRT9 systems generate distinct DNA products — de novo genes and toxic homopolymers through unconventional reverse transcription mechanisms. More recently, we identified DRT10, which catalyzes protein-primed, RNA-templated synthesis of tandem-repeat DNA via a structured ncRNA. This repeat addition mechanism closely parallels telomerase, with shared requirements for template boundary definition and iterative realignment during DNA synthesis. Phylogenetic and structural analyses suggest that telomerase evolved from bacterial DRT-like enzymes, revealing an unexpected evolutionary link between antiviral immunity and eukaryotic chromosome maintenance. Together, these findings expand RNA-guided immunity beyond CRISPR and establish reverse transcription as a broadly conserved strategy for nucleic acid-based defense.

Read more about Sam Sternberg lab
</atom:content><place>Rex, Umeå city</place><type>Seminar</type>
<startdatum>2026-05-29T09:30:00+02:00</startdatum><slutdatum>2026-05-29T10:30:00+02:00</slutdatum>

The research seminar in history and history of ideas: Humlan Majuri

The Research seminar series in history and history of ideas invites you to a seminar with Humlan Majuri.

<atom:content type="html">
The Research seminar series in history and history of ideas invites you to a seminar with Humlan Majuri, chapter draft. While jawed vertebrates generate adaptive immune diversity through RAG-mediated V(D)J recombination, invertebrates lack classical adaptive immunity yet exhibit unexpectedly sophisticated mechanisms for immune specificity. This seminar draws on evidence from sea urchin models to explore alternative evolutionary and functional pathways to immune diversification.

Sea urchins possess a unique immune effector arm based on the Transformer (Trf) gene family, which generates exceptional molecular diversity and mediates pathogen-specific immune responses. Trf genes encode intrinsically disordered proteins with extensive variation in sequence, structure, and expression, enabling highly tailored immune responses despite the absence of canonical adaptive immunity. Although structurally distinct from vertebrate antibodies, Trf-mediated immunity shares key conceptual parallels with adaptive immune systems, including diversification mechanisms, restricted cellular expression, and functional specificity. Remarkedly, single-cell analyses reveal that individual coelomocytes express a single Trf transcript and undergo somatic gene diversification through deletions, duplications, and point mutations, generating cell-specific immune repertoires within a single organism.

Although the molecular drivers of the Trf combinatorial immune strategy remain unresolved, we have identified recombination activating gene-like (RAGL) homologues in sea urchins that may function as nucleases and potentially contribute to somatic immune gene diversification. Together, these findings position sea urchins as a powerful model for understanding how immune specificity and diversity can emerge independently of vertebrate adaptive immunity.

https://campuscore.ariel.ac.il/wp/molecular_ecology/
</atom:content><place>Major Groove, Umeå University Hospital</place><type>Seminar</type>
<startdatum>2026-06-05T14:00:00+02:00</startdatum><slutdatum>2026-06-05T15:00:00+02:00</slutdatum>

Count me in - A Baltic Sea macrovegetation database

A seminar with Nefeli Kechrinioti on how to predict future ecosystem services.

<atom:content type="html">
Nefeli Kechrinioti is an Early Career Researcher from the University of Athens visiting UMF as part of the ERASMUS program.

In her project, she is creating an extensive database of Baltic Sea marovegetation with the aim to analyse the past and present spatial and temporal biogeography of keystone species and predict future changes.
</atom:content><place>Umeå Marine Sciences Centre</place><type>Seminar</type>
<startdatum>2026-06-08T14:00:00+02:00</startdatum><slutdatum>2026-06-08T15:30:00+02:00</slutdatum>

Vanessa Crine – cognitive neuroscience

Dissecting neurocognitive aging: Dopaminergic decline, cerebral small vessel disease, and inflammation.

<atom:content type="html">
Vanessa Crine, Department of Medical and Translational Biology, defends her thesis titled "Dissecting neurocognitive aging: Dopaminergic decline, cerebral small vessel disease, and inflammation".

Principal supervisor: Nina Karalija
</atom:content><place>NAT.D.320</place><type>Defence of doctoral thesis</type>
<startdatum>2026-06-09T13:00:00+02:00</startdatum><slutdatum>2026-06-09T16:00:00+02:00</slutdatum>

Writing workshop to strengthen your MSCA-PF application

Hands-on workshop for researchers applying for an MSCA European Postdoctoral Fellowship with Umeå University as host.

<atom:content type="html">
Are you planning to apply for a Marie Skłodowska-Curie Actions European Postdoctoral Fellowship (MSCA-PF) with Umeå University as your host institution? Well-designed parental leave policies can support greater father involvement, yet the pace of change toward shared caregiving differs considerably both between and within countries.

Workplace contexts can constrain or incentivise leave-taking through normative pressures, organisational policies, and concerns over job security or career development. Our study examines reciprocal influences: not only how workplace contexts shape fathers' choices, but also how fathers' leave-taking behaviour may reshape workplace norms. For example, when high-skilled fathers leverage their bargaining power to take leave, their actions may normalise such behaviour among peers, potentially triggering broader organisational change. The aim is to identify local tipping points where shifts in group behaviour and norms occur.

And some notes from Satu about the plan for the talk:
I begin the presentation with a brief introduction to selected Markovian models. I then present first results from our study, which applies a feedback-augmented non-homogeneous hidden Markov model to Finnish full-population administrative register data with employer–employee linkages. This approach allows us to quantify how previous fathers' leave choices reshape workplace contexts, thereby influencing subsequent fathers' decisions. In doing so, we map a dynamic, two-way process of adaptation between fathers and their workplaces.

All interested are welcome to participate in CEDAR seminars. This year organised as a joint conference with the profile area Societal Transformations at Linköping University. We welcome everyone interested in engaging in research and collaboration for sustainable transformation, as we gather around the theme; Beyond the Backlash: Sustainability for the Future

We are facing growing global challenges, including geopolitical tensions, war, forced migration, climate change, and increasing populism. At the same time, global institutions are weakening and progress towards the sustainable development goals remains insufficient, making the search for paths towards sustainable futures more urgent than ever.

This conference is an opportunity for researchers and policymakers to explore how sustainability can be advanced locally, globally, and translocally despite the polycrisis. Through dialogue, collaboration, and critical reflection, we will examine how knowledge, innovation, and collective action can guide research on and for transformation in turbulent times.

Take the opportunity to meet colleagues across universities and sectors, engage in critical dialogue, and develop collaborations to address major societal challenges of our time.

This conference is organised jointly with Linköping University. Participation is therefore possible on site at Umeå University and at Linköping University.

Read more about the conference: Beyond the Backlash: Sustainability for the Future – Conference, 26 November 2026
</atom:content><place>Vardagsrummet</place><type>Conference</type>
<startdatum>2026-11-26T08:15:00+01:00</startdatum><slutdatum>2026-11-27T16:30:00+01:00</slutdatum>

Microbial diversity and function in wetlands and macrophytes

How microbial communities shapes ecosystem functioning in different wetlands and coastal environments.

<atom:content type="html">
In this seminar, PhD Kesava Priyan Ramasamy will present research projects on how microbial communities shapes ecosystem functioning in different wetlands and coastal environments.

The diversity comparison in nutrient-rich and nutrient-poor mires across continents using metabarcoding and functional pathway analysis. When do we encourage growth — and when might we (often unintentionally) reinforce a more fixed mindset?

In this workshop, we will reflect on our own mindsets as academic teachers and explore how growth- or fixed-oriented assumptions can show up in feedback, assessment, classroom interaction, and everyday communication. Together, we will discuss how these signals may influence students’ motivation, confidence, and learning. Through shared reflection and discussion, we will identify small but meaningful ways to communicate in support of a growth mindset, helping to create learning environments where students feel encouraged to develop, experiment, and persist.

Register here

Communication for learning

This workshop is part of the course Communication for learning but is open for everyone to attend.
</atom:content><place>Läraren, UPL</place><type>Workshop</type>
<startdatum>2026-12-02T08:30:00+01:00</startdatum><slutdatum>2026-12-02T12:00:00+01:00</slutdatum>

KOM-Workshop: NPF Included

In this workshop you will explore dos and don’ts, and how inclusive communication can actually be good for all students’ learning.

<atom:content type="html">
NPF Included

Communication between teachers and students an important part of the learning experience of students.
