40 scholarships for non-EU students approved

NEWS As many as 40 scholarships for non-EU students, admitted to various Master's programmes, for the academic year 2016-17 have been approved by the Vice-Chancellor. The scholarships offered are in the form of tuition-waivers, the majority of which waive the tuition fully for the next academic year.

The choice of students was based on academic merit, the only criterion for selection, from a long list of applicants, for one of the four different scholarships that Umeå University has to offer.

“The Selections Committee was also able to nominate a few second-year non-EU students that are due tuition and were judged to be academically meritorious during their first year. This was possible due to the extra funding available for this year, though academic merit was the underlying criterion,” says Wasif Ali, international coordinator at International Office.

“These scholarships are vital in attracting talented and high-achieving students to Umeå and although the funding we had for this year was the highest in recent years, it still is relatively miniscule and we are always faced with tough choices. Congratulations to the selected scholars,” says Pro-Vice-Chancellor Anders Fällström.

Additionally, 32 students admitted to Umeå University were selected for Swedish Institute Study Scholarships. These scholarships are administered by the Swedish Institute and cover costs of living expenses and tuition.
