NEWS Göran Sandberg, Vice-Chancellor of Umeå University, has been nominated for a Knowledge Award 2009 in the public sector category.

The motivation behind the nomination was as follows:
"As Vice-Chancellor of University, he has in an unusually efficient manner not only succeeded in strengthening the university's research and educational profile, but also its role and importance in relation to the surrounding community. He has demonstrated that the university can have a significant impact on the region and its economy through the conscious knowledge and openness to the community.”

The Knowledge Awards were established in 1982 by the Swedish National Encyclopedia and are conferred annually to candidates who, innovatively, joyfully and successfully, manage to bring knowledge to others. The Knowledge Awards are intended to make creative disseminators of knowledge into Swedish heroes of knowledge. The winners should be good role models, venturing to think in new ways and thus contribute to advancing the level of knowledge in Sweden.
