Call: Develop your research ideas on AI and apply for seed money

As part of a ten-year strategic funding programme for AI research, Umeå University seeks to broaden the interest in and engagement with applications and implications of AI across the university and facilitate the development of promising ideas for research and outreach. The present call aims to encourage new ideas and collaborations.

Researchers are invited to apply for funds up to maximum 100.000 SEK for collaborative projects that fulfill the following conditions:

1. The project should involve interdisciplinary collaboration, i.e. be proposed by at least two people within Umeå University from different faculties or scientific fields.

2. The project should have a concrete output, such as a proposal for other funding, events, publications etc. The output should be intended as a starting point or step on the way to a larger goal.

3. The direct, concrete output should be possible to achieve within 12 months.
4. The project application should aim towards a clear long-term added value in terms of scientific novelty, societal impact, or capacity building that will strengthen interdisciplinary AI-related research and education at Umeå University.

A total of up to 800.000 SEK is set aside for this call with a maximum of 100.000 SEK per application. Only one application is accepted per applicant. The applications will be evaluated by the Council for Artificial Intelligence and Autonomous Systems at Umeå University, RAI, with regard to:

•Cross-disciplinarity and collaboration, where priority is given to new interdisciplinary research constellations consisting of researchers from different faculties or at least genuinely different scientific fields

•The potential importance of the long-term added value (for example knowledge contribution or novel research questions regarding applications and implications of AI, societal impact, capacity building within the university)

•feasibility of concrete output, including budget
